I'm wondering whether the South Africans took the chokers' tag so seriously, because I was surprised to find that under Graeme Smith's captaincy,South Africa has not won a single TriSeries or bigger Multi-teams' Series in the ODI format.
That means they've not won it since 2003.And worse, they've reached the Finals of a TriSeries only twice!
And those 2 Triseries involve a minnow team(Bangladesh in one and Zimbabwe in another.);making those a virtual Bilateral series.
Then,I had a look at the record of his predecessor Shaun Pollock-he's won a Triseries thrice. The last time,South Africa won a Triseries was in 2002,involving Australia and Newzealand.
However,Graeme Smith's record in Bilateral series have been impressive,of the 88 matches which bore results,Smith has won 59 of them;has lost only 4 Bilateral series, won 18 series-he has conceded only one Loss at home-to England, has defeated Australia both at home and in Australia.
So,having won a Bilateral series against every nation, one wonders what make them fail to defeat them all to win a Triseries Cup or an ICC Tournament.
