I was disappointed,as today's play reached only a part of my Expectations.First,Sehwag's batting was sedate by his normal standards :P,he was really good till he reached the three figures, but after the first session;he's somewhat slowed down, boundaries came occasionally-but not with the trademark aggression, mostly they were soft touches.Off-course,he appeared to play a chanceless innings to reach his century, but after that gave 4 chances,(2 very close catch attempts) all of which missed by the NZ fielders;yet he failed to capitalise on it,as he got out for 173.
Then,Dravid's innings looked excruciating initially,as he took 100 deliveries to score just 17 runs;then he picked up well and got his 100 in 220 odd deliveries.During, the second half of his innings,he played all the strokes in pure Text-book manual style-classy;the problem with Dravid is even though he has the talent to play some extremely delightful strokes,he takes too much time to settle and then unleash the strokes on the ground and even after settling down, they just comes in trickles. That makes Dravid less entertaining.:D
Nevertheless,it was a good innings over-all,an in-form Dravid is what India needs to do well in South Africa tour(2010-11);but the problem is he doesn't appear to play a leading role, like the way he used to during 2002-06,he is just hanging around, trying to notch up a decent score by playing a supporting role if Sehwag or Sachin are looking well set for a big knock.
By the time,Sachin arrived;there were too few overs left for Sachin to make an impact on first day, let's see if he can give the fans treat on the Deepavali Day,by capitilising on an extremely good start given by Sehwag and Dravid.
When you find Sehwag, occupying the crease for more than 2 sessions, you must expect the score to be beyond 400 in 90 overs, but it was 330-3,it's still a very good score by normal standards. It's understandable that Sehwag couldn't bat much aggressively,as he suffered a pain in his knee, while batting.
